Celebrating Black History Month

Posted by Shannon Riggs on

Pop Cycle is proud to celebrate Black History this February and all year round. One of our favorite artists is Nina Simone, and on her birthday, February 21, we will donate a portion of sales to Tucson Second Chance Community Bail Fund

Millions of individuals are incarcerated in the United States simply because they can't post bail. TSCCBF seeks to address the disproportionate impact of the cash bail system on communities of color in Pima County. We support them in their work and hope you will shop with us on February 21, either in store or online. We will also be accepting donations for TSCCBF in the shop that day.

We are also excited about community events this month:

  • Speakers, performances and more through the UA Africana Studies program
  • February 18, Black Pussy Power: Reclaiming Our Stories at La Cocina Restaurant and Cantina (5-7 pm) will be an evening of stories and live performances that capture the diverse experiences of black female identifying folxs of Southern Arizona.
  • February 24, the Tucson Hip Hop Festival at 191 Toole features not only performances but also panel talks, local food, local vendors, beat production, and photography.
  • February 25, The Black Market, a market highlighting talented black individuals where you can buy  art, handmade clothing, vintage and more.
