Back to School and Sustainability!
Posted by Shannon Riggs on
These past few weeks we have been hosting a donation drive to collect school supplies for local students! We wanted to share a big thank you to all of the amazing individuals and businesses that helped us make this happen. Thanks especially to our friends on Fourth at Tucson Thrift Shop and Antigone Books! Because of your help we were able to fill 50 backpacks and will be distributing them to Mansfield, Roskruge, Palo, and Sells!
This month we will also be highlighting sustainability in education. Keep an eye out on our Facebook and Instagram for features on local educators making a difference to teach eco-friendly practices to kids!
Speaking of sustainability, Did you know that textiles make up 5% of all landfills in the US & only 15% of unwanted clothing is actually recycled? We'd like to give your old t-shirts a new life as a tote bag! Help us reduce clothing waste and cut down on plastic bags and receive a coupon from us for 20% off! Purchases over $100 will receive a free t-shirt bag. Ask us in store if you'd like a t-shirt bag instead of a plastic bag! Also, a huge thank you to Goodwill on Fourth Avenue for their generous donations to help us purchase t-shirts for this project!
Last but not least we wanted to give you an update on our effort to raise money from t-shirt sales for local organizations making a difference. Last month we highlighted four Tucson nonprofits: People's Defense Initiative, The Florence Project, Groundworks, and Casa Alitas. We are happy to announce that we were able to raise $704 total, and will be donating $176 to each organization.
If you haven't checked out these nonprofits yet, you definitely should! They are doing great work to keep our community strong and thriving.
