Tucson muralist, sign-painter, designer, and mother of five Peniel Macias of the Desert Pen “never could not be an artist.” Growing up Pen attended an arts magnet school, and created her first mural at age 15. After meeting her husband during what she thought would be a short stay in Tucson, Pen dedicated herself to adding beauty to the community she found herself a part of, and has since created dozens of murals all around town, both indoors and outdoors, public and private. One of Pen’s more recent works can be seen at Wooden Tooth Records, less than a block from her favorite Tucson shop: Pop Cycle!
